Alpacas are a member of the camelid family, originate from South America and the Andean countries of Peru were they are kept for their thick fibers.

Alpaca fleece is very desirable in this country for its wonderful soft texture which makes ideal for making items of clothing.

We have only had our alpacas since June 2006. I'm hoping that this year we will be able to have them sheared so their fleece can be made in to yarn and then made in to an item of clothing.

They have a two-acre paddock with access to a barn; Alpacas do not have a waterproof coat as sheep do so have to have shelter from rain in cold weather. They are grazing animals and have hay to supplement there diet
